Stewie - this registration site separated the 'crimes against children' from the 'other sex crimes'. I took the liberty of clicking on the little dots. It pulls up pictures and descriptions of the crimes. So - of the three that were in my area, one of them was a young guy. I then made the assumption that his "sex crime" was because he'd had sex with his girlfriend, who was underage at the time, and the parents got pissed. The other two were men in their late 50's, and the crime was "aggravated sexual assault". That means that an actual rape took place. All the other dots were "other criminal offenses". So I do like this site, because it attempts to explain, and I think the explanation is for everyone's benefit.

WELL THIS SUCKS...Here is what I got!
OregonUnfortunately, Oregon does not currently publicize the registered sex offenders living within the state. Consequently, we are unable to provide any information about Oregon's sex offender population.
In discussions with Oregon state officials, we learned that Oregon does plan to provide a web-based registry of its sex offenders. Their planned implementation date is July 1, 2006.
We will eagerly await the introduction of Oregon's online sex offender registry. As soon as Oregon data is available, we will provide it to Family Watchdog visitors.
I guess we will wait until then:)

I think that's where my problem lies. You know what he was charged of, but, again, you don't know the circumstances (well, you might, so I could be mistaken--your state may do it different from Maryland). Is the person a repeat offender? Were there outside factors (drugs, alcohol)?
I have many, many problems with this law, especially considering I knew someone who got grief for no reason because people went to a site like this and assumed. His crime? The very one you mentioned about the guy sleeping with his girlfriend and the parents getting pissed. But people made assumptions and made his life hell because they had no idea of what the circumstances were.
To post their information on the internet, with ONLY their crime, and not the circumstances is assinine because people will jump to conclusions.
As much as I hate to say it, but if someone has served their sentence handed down by a jury, then that's it. They served their time.
The simple solution would be to castrate repeated sex offenders and put down pedos. Or put down both, I'm flexible.

I like your solution!!!!
I think most people here in Texas realize that assumptions could be made. That's why I always check the pics. Just to see the age of the registree. I know lots of other people do as well. ALSO!! We live in a small town. One of the registees in my neighborhood was actually running a fricking PORN STUDIO out of his home. That made the news. I was so pissed!! I didn't know he was out of jail though...

Kim - you are so very welcome - but remember to click on the boxes. It will tell you the exact nature of the offense. Also - like Stewie & I were discussing above... you have to decide for yourself, is this a case of a ticked-off parent that was mad because an 18 year old guy was sleeping with their 16 year old daughter? Or is it an actual rape? But it does give very good information.
Glad I helped ya!

Yes! that is why I thought the site so useful. We had around 10 older looking males that were charged were indecent liberties with mionors (all farther than 4 miles from our house). One other was charged with sex offense 2nd degree and had a special green dot and one other was charged with sex eploit minor 2nd degree. I had heard of this site before but never checked it out. I looked at all the pictures and recognized some from the paper when articles were written about their arrest.
The site does not list all of them. My husband found on the NC state sex offenders database that were 26 in our county. Family Watchdog only listed 12 on the map of our county.
My husband and I started discussing this because I recognized one of the persons and not from the paper. He didn't recognize him so I must have seen him at his place of business or something. So we started discussing this and I mentioned they should put their current employment on this info sheet as well. My husband stated exactly what Stewie did that it is not fair to just put the crime they are charged with and not the circumstances of their crime. We live in a hillbilly area and sometimes we have older men with much younger girlfriends. He also said that if this info can be published on the website that you can probably look up the case info at the courthouse. The docket number might be the little number posted on the bottom of their pictures. Or just some really good google searching of their name might bring up newspaper articles about their arrest.
wow that is a useful site. We live out in the boonies. No sex offender in our immediate area. We live about 6 miles from the town limits. I did notice that most of the offenders live within our town's limits and noticed one that did live within close proximity to the one elementary school in the town limits. If there isn't a law that says they shouldn't live within so many miles of a school, there should be one.
